Sweettreats Ultimate Pie Crust

"I have been searching for the ultimate pie crust recipe. After altering several recipes and testing them out this is what I have come up with. This is a Fool proof crust that is easy to roll out and bakes up nice and flaky. You can use half butter flavored shortening if you want to add a little butter flavoring to your crust."

  • In a large bowl combine the flour, salt, baking powder, sugar, cinnamon and mix together. Add shortening and cut into the flour mixture using a pasty cutter or fork until mixture resembles small pea sized shapes. Add water and mix to form a ball. Wrap in plastic wrap and put in the refrigerator to chill for 1 hour. The longer the dough chills the easier it will be to roll out. Take out your dough and roll dough thin to about 1/8 inch and place in your pie pan. With a fork poke holes around the bottom and the sides of the crust. This will help make sure that the bottom of the crust bakes. Put crust back in the refrigerator to rest for 10 minutes. Letting your crust rest will help keep it from shrinking during the cooking process.

  1. Made this tonight and it turned out great. Don't really know why there's cinnamon in this crust but none the less I followed recipe as written. It was very good.

  2. I made this pie crust for an Sour Cream Apple Pie with a crumb crust on top. (so I was able to make two pies) The pie crust was so easy to make, I used half shortening and half butter flavored shortening. I left in the fridge for about 2 1/2 hours before rolling out the dough. It baked wonderfully, the bottom of the crust was nice and crisp with a light flakey buttery flavor. This was my first home made pie crust. So easy! Thank you Sweettreats!!:) Will use again and again.

I am a mother of two teenagers who loves to bake. I have been decorating cakes for eight years and enjoy a challenge. Creating new recipes is a hobby for me and I love to use my co workers as taste testers. The only problem is they expect something new every week. I love making party cakes for my friends and family members. The type of cakes that I don't enjoy making are Wedding cakes. I have made seven Wedding cakes to this day but they tend to be to stressful for me. I am always checking Recipezaar for new and exciting recipes to try. Thank you.
