directions

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • In a large bowl cream together shortening and butter. Add granulated sugar, brown sugar, eggs and vanilla mix until creamy. Add flour, salt, baking soda and mix until all ingredients are blended together. Finally add chocolate chips and nuts if desired. Using a small cookie scoop place cookies on a cookie sheet and bake for 10 minutes. Do not over bake. Cookies will look undone when properly cooked. Just the edges of the cookies will turn light brown.

  1. Wonderful! Fantastic texture, not overly sweet-perfect balance. Thanks for sharing!

  2. Great! Somewhat chewy inside, with a slightly crisp exterior ~ as I like it! I didn't have butter-flavored shortening, so I divided that 1/3 cup between more of each of the butter & the shortening (2 Tblsp + 2 teasp. each). Thank you, Sweettreats!

  3. I made these cookies last night for my husband because he loves chocolate chip cookies. These were great, Big Hit with my family. Woke up this morning and half the plate of cookies gone! Darling Son and Daughter also helped them selves quite a bit. Cookes were soft and crispy. Thank you!

  4. I just got these out of the oven. They are delicious. I had to omit the nuts because of allergies. Will make often. Thanks from an AR RE person

  5. These cookies were very tasty--a hit with my family. I followed the directions as written with the exception of adding the nuts. Because my cookie sheets are quite heavy, I added one more minute to the cooking time. These are crispy on the edges, nice and soft in the middle. Perfection!

I am a mother of two teenagers who loves to bake. I have been decorating cakes for eight years and enjoy a challenge. Creating new recipes is a hobby for me and I love to use my co workers as taste testers. The only problem is they expect something new every week. I love making party cakes for my friends and family members. The type of cakes that I don't enjoy making are Wedding cakes. I have made seven Wedding cakes to this day but they tend to be to stressful for me. I am always checking Recipezaar for new and exciting recipes to try. Thank you.
