  1. Have made these for over 40 yrs. One thing most people do wrong is you have to bring to a FULL ROLLING boil, before you start counting your minutes. That means the whole pan has to be bubbling up before counting, #1 thing people get wrong. Another is just like candy you can not make these if it is damp or foggy outside, they will not set up. The recipe I use calls for 1 stick of butter/ margarine, and I like to put 1/2 cup coconut in place of 1/2 c. Oatmeal. I use the quick oats/ have used both types. I always just give it a little longer boil just to be on the safe side. Have made as many as 3 batches at one time but it is hard too get them all out of pan before they harden. You can put just about anything in you want to, nuts, dates, etc. Hope this helps some people who have failed, to try again! These really are good and easy once you get the hang of it. Good Luck!

  2. These were delishious and very easy to make! I noticed they dried out faster than I could sheet them so I just added a tiny bit of milk and stired to make them fresh again. Worked great. Super recipe, thanks for sharing!

  3. Had to boil longer than recommended to get my desired consistency (more fudge like) but they turned out perfect! I used old fashioned oats and half brown sugar half white sugar.

  4. Had to throw the first batch away, I have made these since I was 12 and am now 31! You need a whole stick or 1/2 cup of butter or margarine and 2 and 1/2 cups of Oats, also only let boil at a rapid boil 1 minute.

  5. I used old fashioned oats instead of quick. My first batch crumbled miserably. So, I dropped the oats to 2 cups and they turned out wonderfully. I like this recipes ratio of butter to peanut butter. The taste is marvelous. Thank you.

Tweaks

  1. More Butter and Less Oats

  2. Great Recipe. I like making them with the recipe exactly as listed- so delicious. But recently I was low/ out of the ingredients called for so I replaced part of the peanut butter with Nutella, I only had 2 cups of oats, so I substituted the last cup with chia seeds, I use almond extract instead of vanilla and Hershey's special dark chocolate cocoa powder since that is what I had. Next time I am going to add slivered almonds to the recipe and keep the substitutions.

  3. These were very good, but I made some healthy changes... I used a little less than a cup of sugar (and they were still SUPER sweet, so I can't imagine double that amount). I used almond milk and a mix of almond and peanut butter. I used coconut oil instead of butter and a little less oats than called for. Also a pinch I cinnamon really kicked it up a notch.

  4. Easy! What I was looking for. Instead of peanut butter I used Soy Nut Butter as my son is allergic to pb, and wanted him to be able to eat these too. I don't like the Soy Butter But loved these cookies with it in them.. Easy recipe to make peanut free!
