This is a really good chocolate cake, I used half brown and half white sugar. This cake was moist and chocolaty.

Excellent cake! I halved the recipe. I used milk soured with lemon juice because I NEVER have buttermilk! I baked it in round corning casserole dish (7.5inches?) for 20 minutes then covered it tightly with foil and baked an additional 25 minutes. So a steamed cake? I guess? It came out so well! I've made this several times now and am about to make 2 more to take camping next week. Thanks for the great recipe. :)

Sadly, this recipe turned out nothing like what I had hoped. I followed the recipe exactly as written, with no substitutions or changes whatsoever. I was expecting cake--even a dense one, based on the reviews, but what I got was much more like a very heavy brownie. It was moist, it was dense, but it wasn't what I would call cake. Much, much more like a brownie. I also found it to be extremely sweet. The sweetness of the cake really overpowered the cocoa and the chocolate flavor was not allowed to come through very well. The cake was easy enough to make, but it just isn't one I'll be making again.

Nimz, this is the best chocolate cake I've ever had. It's moist and just the right amount of chocolate. This will be the only recipe I use from here on out for a traditional chocolate cake. My sister helped me make it last weekend for a birthday party, and it was so good we had to make it again already. Edited to say that OF THE 350 RECIPES I REVIEWED IN 2008, THIS HAS GONE INTO MY TOP 20 FAVORITES COOKBOOK.

Oh gosh this is wonderful. Moist, chocolatey. I held back from making the icing to try and cut the calories since i was alone and would eat the whole darned cake :D but it was great alone too.

Very easy tasty cake. I especially liked the melt and mix icing, a great way to use up the leftover buttermilk in my fridge! And no mess since I could mix it all by hand (thus having dishwasher safe dishes!) Thanks, Nimz! (I didn't use the nuts in the icing).

So moist and rich and yummy! I had to cook mine for quite a bit longer than the suggested time for some reason but then end result was delicious never the less.

A fine chocolate cake - made for DD's birthday. Even my chocolate-wary husband thought it was good. Thanks for sharing!

Nimz, this is our favorite cake or at least a close copy. This is very similar to what we refer to as Texas Cake. It is moist and sinfully rich. Made for ZWTIII.

Wow...wow...wow. Need I say more, this cake rocks Nimrod. My family, my friends, my neighbors and I all want to thank you for sharing, and thanks to Mrs. Moore. We all couldn't get enough of this large, rich, moist, dense, cake with a wonderful chocolate frosting.

I make a lot of chocolate cakes and always like to look for new recipes. This cake is quite moist, but the flavor just wasn't great at all. I put the full 4 T. of cocoa in, but the taste wasn't very chocolatey (the cake is also quite light in color compared to most cakes). For a GREAT chocolate cake, I'd recommend #49613.

This cake was great! I made it for a workmate's birthday and there wasn't a crumb left of it at the end of the day! The recipe is really straight forward and makes a dense, moist and very rich cake. I used a springform instead of a 9x13 inch pan and adjusted the cooking time, it took about 40-45 minutes until the skewer came ut clean. Thanks for sharing!

My husband gave this the thumbs up! Very chocolaty and yummy! I didn't stir the powdered sugar good enough and when I poured the frosting over the cake there were little white lumps so I bought some frosting and put a thin layer over the lumpy frosting. Worked like a charm. I will be taking this to church for a fellowship dinner tomorrow! Thanks dcmac!
