Cut out Cookies

"This recipe belongs to a very dear friend who was kind enough to share it with me. When her husband was stationed in Lafayette we would get together and bake these cookies at Christmas. It always brings back memories when I make them. I now use this recipe to make "cookie bouquets." When using for a cookie bouquet roll the cookie a little thicker and press lollipop stick into cookie after you have placed on cookie sheet."

  1. These cookies are out of this world!!! The simple addition of cinnamon (compared to other suger cookies) is fabulous. I made these along with a yummy EASY frosting #99708. My daughter and her dance class loved them and wanted more! Thank you, and your friend, for sharing this recipe!!

  2. These cookies are something to sing about!! I made these for both of my DS's choir parties. The kids (all 59 of them)loved them! Not only are they delicious - the dough is so easy to work with too. I added the baking soda with the flour mixture and the vanilla with the egg (didn't see them in the instructions) and that worked out well. A "musical" note of thanks from the Fort Wayne Children's Choir and the Concordia Lutheran Chamber Choir.

  3. This recipe rocks. I added 1/2 cup of applesaauce in place of some of the butter and the cookies turned out wonderfull and sooo soft. Mmmmm...

  4. Yummy. My daughters helped me cut out and then decorate the cookies. It seems they ate one for everyone they finished. We made a second batch and added 1 tsp.maple flavoring and increased the flour by half a handful to allow for the extra moisture. Yum there too.

  5. I made these for Christmas, they were a hit. I will be making them every Christmas now, Everyone loved them. They will now become a christmas tradition. I added an extra 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon. It made them exceptionally delicious. I've made 3 batches of these, the best one is with the extra cinnamon.

Living in the south we are very lucky to have an abundance of fresh seafood and other ingredients at our disposal when trying new recipes. My husband and I both love to cook and have learned a lot about cooking from our native Louisianian, Paul Prudhomme (we learned to be very careful with his recipes as they are very spicy - even for us), native New Orleanian, Frank Davis and transplanted Emeril Lagasse. It would be very difficult to pick an all time favorite cookbook since I have approximately 200. I enjoy collecting local cookbooks as well as others from different areas. This picture is obviously when DH and I got married. I cooked all the food and even made my wedding cake.
