I baked these for a restaurant, and they are amazing! I used dried cranberries rather than cherries. The merlot (Copper Ridge) added a delicious "something extra." Definitely use DARK baking chocolate. Wonderful, wonderful, and they will be made and enjoyed again.

For me, these were just okay... the batter had a great texture, but the brownies themselves weren't all that chocolatey (amazingly), nor could I detect the presence of the merlot. I did like the addition of the cherries, though. And I was really amused when the bar of baking chocolate that I bought to make these brownies turned out to have this very recipe on the back!

Mmmmmmmmm! These will be made again in our house! Rich and chocolatey I don't think I'll be using the boxed mixes anymore! I used 62% cacao instead.

Mmmmmmmm! I used dried cranberries as I couldn't find cherries, but followed the rest exactly. A delicious, rich brownie - lovely with coffee after dinner instead of a full-on dessert. The only problem is I *really* have to hide from the kids if I want one during the day LOL. Made for ZWT3.

If you have a Trader Joe's store in your area, they carry all kinds of dried fruits, including cherries and cranberries. This is a superb recipe and loved by all I served it too.

This makes a very adult tasting/pleasing brownie. It is not too rich and not too sweet. I love the sophisticated flavors! The hint of merlot really adds to this recipe! I used Columbia Crest Grand Estates Merlot (2003)for the wine and 5 1/2 ounces of Ghirardelli Dark Chocolate Squares (60% Cocoa) and the remaining 2 1/2 ounces Ghirardelli Bittersweet Chocolate Baking Chips (60% Cacao). I was unable to find dried cherries much to my dismay but was very pleased with the results achieved using Ocean Spray Cherry Flavored Dried Cranberries (Crasins). Thanks Annacia! ETA: OMG! These are even more awesome the second day!

Great recipe! Nice to make something different once in a while, you know? I ended up not discarding the merlot, because it was almost all soaked in the cherries, so I just threw it in. I think next time I will use more cherries, though, as I didn't get much of the cherry flavor. I thought of either putting in a few more ounces of cherry OR maybe dripping some cherry glaze or something on top of the brownies. But overall, this was a big hit! Thank you!
