  • Preheat the oven to 180c/350F/Gas4.
  • Sift flour and baking powder into a bowl.
  • In a separate bowl combine the butter, sugar, eggs and vanilla.
  • Stir in the chocolate chips.
  • Gently combine the wet and dry ingredients - careful not to overmix (or the end result will be a tough and dry loaf).
  • Pour batter into a nonstick or lightly greased 19x11cm (7 1/2 x 4 1/2 inch) loaf pan.
  • Bake 1 hour and 15 minutes or until skewer inserted comes out clean.
  • Remove from oven. Leave to cool in tin for 5 minutes before turning out on a wire rack to cool.
  • Serve in thick slices with creamy butter!
