I can tell you are from Dutch Country, I used to live in Lenhartsville; the people there also end their sentences with, "with." Cute. I have been looking for a Shoofly Pie recipe because my one girlfriend's Mom has requested it. She used to live in Lancaster when she was young; she's now 82 and is in poor health. I want to make her a fabulous pie and I think your recipe is the one I have been looking for. Thanks!!
I'm originally from York county - Just outside of Lancaster and I've been craving a "taste of home". Shoo Fly Pie was a treat when I was growing up - and it HAD to come from Lancaster county! This recipe didn't dissapoint! It took me back into my childhood and many, many fond memories of Lancaster county! Thanks for sharing such an AMAZING recipe!
Made this pie last night for the family. This was the first time making/tasting Shoofly pie, so could not compare with others. However, the pie was very good. The molasses was not over powering. I will make it again soon.
Thanks for the recipe. This looks like the dry bottom, which I am looking forward to trying. Here in Lancaster County McClures pies and salads makes a great wet bottom if you ever get the chance to try it. It is from a family handed down recipe as well. 30 years plus old Amish/Mennonite recipe. I used to feel bad for the folks that don't live in Lancaster, they can never get the authentic shoo fly pie, but recently McClure's starting shipping pies. You can order on-line at http://shoo-fly-pie.com
i have the same cookbook, i bought it a garage sale and this is the shoo fly recipe that i use. excellent pie and easy to make. even easier to eat slightly warm with vanilla ice cream on top.
i think it's obvious who would be looking for a Shoo Fly Pie recipe. I've always wanted to try this but when I first discovered there wasn't anything in the pie but sugar, I passed because I thought that was gross. I decided to finally try this. After all, I love scrapple and everyone else thinks scrapple is gross. I used butter and molasses and I have to say the pie was very good. It would go well with coffee. I put some whipped cream on top!
I can't wait to make this!!! As a kid my grandparents took us on a "working" vacation, to PA. He worked for Land o Lakes we went to a place called plain & fancy an amish family stlye resturant. It was awsome. All the food and desserts. This was one of my favorites. I had the worst tummy ache from eating so much. It was so good we couldn't help ourselves. Thank you so much for the happy memories. I will definatley make this and post a review.
