    SEvans's Note:

There are many variations for this "all in one" bun - here is my version. These are super for packed lunches - or on the go meals. A healthy alternative to store brands. They also make an impressive picnic or pot luck alternative. They freeze well and can be reheated without making them too crusty.

    Ingredients:

    Serves: 1-12

    Yield:

    buns

    Units: US | Metric

    Directions:

    1. 1
Combine yeast sugar and 1/2 cup warm water - cover and set aside for approximately 10 minutes.
    2. 2
In a large mixing bowl combine all other ingredients except flour - add yeast mix well and add flour.
    3. 3
when the dough no longer sticks to the bowl - dump out on a floured surface and kneed - incorporating additional flour as needed to make the dough non sticky - pliable - and well combined. I usually kneed for at least 10 minutes.
    4. 4
return to a greased bowl - place in your oven with only the light on - cover and let rise for 1 - 1 1/2 hours.
    5. 5
while the dough is rising - prepare your filling. Saute beef until 1/2 way done - add onions and garlic - saute for about 5 - ish minutes then add all the other ingredients and mix well - allow to simmer for about 20 minutes.
    6. 6
Remove from heat and let cool.
    7. 7
when dough has risen to double its original size - grease your baking pans.
    8. 8
pull off an egg sized piece of dough - flatten it out - but not too thin. Add approximately a table spoon to two table spoons of filling. bring your edges together and pinch them closed so no filing is visible. Place them seam side down on your baking sheets.
    9. 9
Allow to rise for 1 hour covered with a towel or in your oven - without heat.,.
    10. 10
Bake in a 375 degree oven for 25 minutes - butter the top of the buns when they come out of the oven - cool and serve -
    11. 11
This recipe can be doubled easily to accomodate a large group.
